Everything Everything by Nicola Yoon
I have heard a lot of talk about Everything Everything by Nicole Yoon. Since they plan on making this into a motion picture, I knew I had to read it. This is a young adult book that is really a great read. Madeline (Maddy) is a seventeen year old girl that lives with her mother. She spends her days hanging out with her friend Carla, who is also her nurse. She can’t leave her home because she’s been diagnosed to have a rare disease that leaves her basically allergic to the world. The disease is called SCID. Because Madeline can never leave the house, she reads a lot, watches movies, or plays games with her mother. This was her normal life and she was happy with it. That is until one day she sees a moving truck at the house next door. She sees a boy who she later learns is named Olly. Him and his sister Kara bring a cake to Madeline’s mother in hopes to meet her. They have seen her in the house looking out the windows. Even though they cannot hang out they figure out a way to talk through emails. When Madeline tells Olly about her disease and he seems to take the news well, even accepting it. As their friendship grows they manage to seek visits with the help of her nurse, Carla. The story takes many turns with a lot of ups and downs. There is a strong sense of hope, love, and friendship. I feel the author done an amazing job creating the plot line and characters for this book making them unforgettable. I highly recommend this book. The instant #1 New York Times bestseller–soon to be a major motion picture! In theaters May 19, it stars Amandla Stenberg as Maddy and Nick Robinson as Olly.
SYNOPSIS: My disease is as rare as it is famous. Basically, I’m allergic to the world. I don’t leave my house, have not left my house in seventeen years. The only people I ever see are my mom and my nurse, Carla. But then one day, a moving truck arrives next door. I look out my window, and I see him. He’s tall, lean and wearing all black—black T-shirt, black jeans, black sneakers, and a black knit cap that covers his hair completely. He catches me looking and stares at me. I stare right back. His name is Olly. Maybe we can’t predict the future, but we can predict some things. For example, I am certainly going to fall in love with Olly. It’s almost certainly going to be a disaster. Everything, Everything will make you laugh, cry, and feel everything in between. It’s an innovative, inspiring, and heartbreakingly romantic debut novel that unfolds via vignettes, diary entries, illustrations, and more.
