Say You’ll Remember Me by Katie McGarry was published January 30th, 2018 by Harlequin Teen and is a contemporary young adult romance novel. When Drix was convicted of a crime–one he didn’t commit–he thought his life was over. But opportunity came with the new Second Chance Program, the governor’s newest pet project to get delinquents off the streets, rehabilitated and back into society. Drix knows this is his chance to get his life back on track, even if it means being paraded in front of reporters for a while.
Elle knows she lives a life of privilege. As the governor’s daughter, she can open doors with her name alone. But the expectations and pressure to be someone she isn’t may be too much to handle. She wants to follow her own path, whatever that means.
When Drix and Elle meet, their connection is immediate, but so are their problems. Drix is not the type of boy Elle’s parents have in mind for her, and Elle is not the kind of girl who can understand Drix’s messy life.
But sometimes love can breach all barriers. Fighting against a society that can’t imagine them together, Drix and Elle must push themselves–Drix to confront the truth of the robbery, and Elle to assert her independence–and each other to finally get what they deserve.
KATIE MCGARRY was a teenager during the age of grunge and boy bands and remembers those years as the best and worst of her life. She is a lover of music, happy endings, and reality television, and is a secret University of Kentucky basketball fan.
My thoughts: Say You’ll Remember Me is an intriguing read that will take you on a roller coaster ride of emotions. You will fail in love with Drix from the beginning! McGarry writes a beautiful story of young love between two teenagers that society feels should never be together. Told from two different points of view (Drix and Elle). This allows you to see both sides of their love story and all the obstacles that stand in their way.
The characters are well developed with interesting backstories. The perfect love story of a good girl who loves a bad boy. Can they survive the fallout when their secret love comes to light? Is their love strong enough to stand against their family and friends who feel they should never be together? Not only is this a love story, there is a secret that involves Drix’s past that is not revealed until the end.
Overall, you will fall in love with Say You’ll Remember Me. The love story of Drix and Elle is sure to stay with you long after you read the last page. I hope there will be a second book that shares some of the stories around the secondary characters. I highly recommend this contemporary young adult romance to anyone who loves reading a love story that will warm your heart. ** I received a complimentary copy in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.
